Question: if any of you can help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. I recently found out from a reliable source saying that AP credits doesn’t save you money, but only time in college. Say you get a 5’s in AP English and AP Calculus BC, and they are 8 credits. Say that the college takes the 8 credits. However, you have to pay the college the eight credits because the college does not charge the tuition by credits. You see, once you are a full-time student, the college charge you by semesters. So unless you want to graduate early, you really don’t save any money. You might benefit from taking fewer classes (but you are still paying for them). My questions is….for those of us who don’t plan to graduate early, why would we take AP credits rather than taking the actual college course. Wouldn’t the college course teach us more?
Answer: NYU girl, you know what. I didn’t take any AP classes but did get into a good college. The difference is that if you have taken AP courses, you don’t have to work THAT hard for those HARD courses. Even though if you get a 3 on an AP exam and did not receive credits, AP courses do make you smarter. I noticed this difference when I got into a college. People who had taken AP courses tended to be smarter than me, who didn’t know anything about college level stuff. High school stuff is so so so so much easier than college stuff. I had a hard time during the transaction time while I was a freshman.
Well, AP courses can’t save you money, instead of taking 16-20 credits/semester like those people who haven’t taken any AP courses, you can be so much happier to take 12 credits/semester and save some time to enjoy college life instead. Or, if you really want to get most out of your tuition, you can pursue double majors, a second major, or dual degrees in 4 years. If you really wanna save money, you can easily finish your college in 3 years. See, so many options if you have credits in your hands when you enter a college.
For a student who haven’t taken any AP courses in high school, I am working my ass out to get a second major or double majors since there are just SO MANY credits to accomplish…And, I even have to study every beautiful summer….Can’t even go for co-op or internship…. see…
