Question: Does any one know what types of companies (and specifically their names) will offer internships in exchange for some of college tuition being paid for. I know that some companies will offer you internship then say they’ll pay for some or all of college on the condition that the student will work for them for a certain number of years after graduation. If any one has info for this in the Berkeley, California and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania areas in particular, please e-mail me.
Thanks a lot,
Answer: Well, it’s not exactly an internship, but have you considered enlisting in one of the US Armed Forces reserve components. By this I mean joining a local Army or Air Force Reserve or Army/Air National Guard unit near a school of your choice. If you enlist as a soldier/airman (you won’t be an officer) you will qualify for the student loan repayment program and receive a small salary for one weekend a month worth of work. You would also have to take time off during the summer to go to basic training and maybe more time, depending on your MOS (i.e., job), for advanced training. Of course, you could also be called up for duty in the case of a war or natural disaster (hopefully not during finals week : ) ). Plus you also get the satisfaction of serving your country.
Also, some Army and Air National Guard units (by state) have a deal where if you join up, you could qualify for reduced or waived in-state tuition.
I’m not a recruiter, but I do think it’s a good deal and might be worth considering. Let me know if you need more info. I’m going through a similar process right now.
Good luck,
