Question: Looking for any help in finding student loan forgiveness programs for teachers.

Answer: First stop should be the fine print on the promissory notes you signed. Sometimes the loans have a forgiveness thing built in.

Another possibility is to talk to your school. Some schools have programs that will reduce some loans somewhat if you work within your field at a sufficiently low income for long enough.

I’m also wondering if you could work with something like Americorps for two years in a teaching-related capacity, qualify for their educational benefit, and apply that toward past rather than future educational expenses. A similar question arises when you think about ROTC or other military or police recruitment incentives. Who knows what an ambitious recruiter might be able to offer?

Another possibility would be to search for “teacher” and “student loan” and “forgiveness or reduction” (or at least some combination of those terms) on the title and/or subject lines of a power search at Northernlight.com.
