Question: My student loan was placed into default when it shouldn’t have been. I was not making payments but qualified for an extension. I am permenantly legally blind and at the time was continueing my education and unemployed. I do plan on paying the loan back when I get a job. Because of the default I won’t be getting a refund on my income taxes this year. I was in a nine month residancy to furthur make myself job worthy. My wife and I barly make enough to get by and the refund would have really helped. Does anyone know how I can get the default status reversed? I want to pay back the loan with interrest but with the default charges it’s over $20,000, a lot more than the original loan. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Answer: Seems like you should know how to deal with the loan process. You are educated and use a computer. Don’t you have a phone number to call or someone to write to? Can’t you ask for a supervisor? Is there an appeal process? Did you let something drag on too long that caused the government to hold back your refund? If you were really wronged, call your congressperson if the government agency won’t help you. .
The government can make a mistake. Deal with it. If the government didn’t make a mistake, deal with it.
Is your blindness and your wife’s low income relevant to whether or not you qualified for an extension?
